I used to own a Fold 4 and it's a wonderful device, I really loved it (mostly the multitasking, stylus support, small outer screen for one-handed use). Unfortunately, the design is truly fragile and I sold mine after I got it back from the repair shop for the second time (and got a boring iPhone). I truly hope newer generations will be better and I can purchase one that will last at least 3-4 years.

> That's a big reason Apple causes so much resentment -- not everyone can value time over money. Is it? I have been buying apple products for over 20 years now, and like most people here make a lot more money than the people who behold an iPhone as a status symbol lol. I still see Apple's desire to get a kickback for every transaction on an iPhone nefarious nickel and diming, and I see their "ecosystem" as deliberate vendor lock-in - and I think that "ecosystem" actually holds Apple's OSes back in terms of innovation. I regularly disagree with Apple's choices. Not all of em? I was ok with the vision pro - not buying one, but sometimes you need to experiment with things like that. Just because I disagree doesn't mean I have to all-or-nothing it. Per all the smug "just get an android phone" comments, I DID. I have a galaxy fold 4 and an iPhone 13 sitting on my desk. Yea, I can afford to do silly stuff like that, and I'm a goofy nerd that likes trying different things. I don't have a steadfast attachment to one platform - another reason I find the "ecosystem" stuff obnoxious.

Right now a Galaxy Fold 4. It's pretty great. But I was doing this stuff on an HTC wizard back in 2005. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTC_Wizard It had a slide-out keyboard which I loved. I would even write code remotely to fix a critical bug, and deploy it, while I was out having lunch with my team. No need to rush back to the office. Granted, I had better eyesight 20 years ago, but now I just use readers, can see the screen just fine.

A lot of your issues come from using a Google phone (Nexus/Pixel) rather than a different brand such as Samsung. Samsung can do external display mirror over USB, or let you use your external USB monitor as a second display (wirelessly too). It has no messaging bullshit. That said I have a Fold 4. iPhone aren't doing folding phones atm and they lock down the ecosystem so much I have zero interest.

I doubt they will offer the same kind of discount Samsung did with the Fold 4. There's no way I would have bought the Fold 4 for its MSRP, but they gave me $1000 discount with a trade-in of my old Galaxy S9+, so I got the Fold4 for essentially about $800.

I've gotten a lot of value out of my fold 4, especially in spontaneous situations where I don't have a tablet or my notebook at hand. Pull out my phone, snap a picture, then annotate. Or just pull it out and draw to try and get a concept across. Reading or watching videos, sharing an image, or whatever. And I Always have it with me, because I always have my phone with me. I don't carry around my laptop everywhere, and I've never purchased a tablet. It's just remarkably convenient

Nothing here suggests that Xbox has any interest in building a handheld, or that it would be successful. Series S is still heavily criticized for not being "next gen" while delivering a next-gen experience, and the Steam Deck performs even worse. The Steam Deck is still niche and has plenty of issues that casual gamers who just want an affordable gaming experience from their couch (often to just play the latest Call of Duty) don't want to deal with. Xbox benefits from other companies getting into the PC handheld market. You can play Xbox games (for PC) on the Steam Deck, or use it to stream from XCloud. I personally haven't seen a large number of people saying they'd sell their Series S and buy a Steam Deck. Because of XCloud being available in my phone (Galaxy Fold 4), I spend a lot more time playing Xbox games than I otherwise would. I don't regularly carry a handheld console around with me like I do with my phone. Streaming to phones also resolves issues for South American countries where gaming hardware is incredibly expensive for most people, while most of those same people do have phones and internet access. I don't think the market would be that excited for a poorly performing Xbox handheld (less performance than Series S) and higher performance would hurt thermals and battery life to a point that would be unreasonable.
