Well, my Galaxy S22 (from well: 2022), which still works great will no longer receive _any_ updates after February 27, so I'll have to get new one, or potentially suffer open security holes in the future. Also, even now I only receive security fixed on a quarterly schedule. Still not keen on switching to the walled garden - I like the apps I have, including custom browser engines. I like having F-Droid with open source apps. Will probably get another Samsung, as they have extended updates to 7 years for newer S models.

This is flabbergasting, how could such a large proportion of highly technical people willingly subject themselves to being shackled by iOS? They just happily put up with having one choice of browser, (outside Europe) no third party app stores, and being locked into the Apple ecosystem? I can't think of a single reason I would ever switch from an S22-25+U to an iPhone. I only went from 22U to 25U because my old one got smashed, otherwise the 22U would still be perfectly fine.

I've found even "normal" sized phones, like my S22, can encounter UI bugs where crappy interfaces appear to expect iPhone Max sized screens and so end up hiding bits of the interface behind button bars or fixed hight screens that hide the "next/submit" buttons behinds keyboards. I can only imagine how much worse these banking apps are on a smaller screen.

This is how I solve this problem on my Samsung Galaxy S22: make a screenshot, then you are able to select text in the builtin Gallery app via instant OCR. Works surprisingly well. I needed some time to find this feature out.

That's beside the point but I don't game on my phone (s22 with 128gb) and constantly have to shuffle storage just for photos, videos and music streaming cache. Storage is so cheap it makes no sense to pay 1,000$ for a device and then be a slave to manually managing it. It's insulting.

> Plus almost everyone who says they want a smaller phone will just buy a larger one anyway. The last time I bought a phone I chose Samsung S22, which was way out of my initially intended budget, for the sole reason that there were not any smaller options available below its price range.

Bluetooth 5.2 was supposed to fix this issue. Indeed, my S22 phone with Jabra Elite 8s sounds great in calls. MacBooks newer than 2023 SHOULD have better call quality. They have Bluetooth 5.3¹. Can anybody confirm this? I have been meaning to try pairing my earbuds with a floor model at a store and testing audio quality but's only to satisfy a curiosity for me. --- 1. https://support.apple.com/en-us/111838

As an owner of a Samsung Galaxy S22, which is not small but seemed to me like the only sane size - feature - price balance on the Android market back then: maybe the reason is battery life? I'm really underwhelmed by the one of the S22. I barely get a day out of it. When I'm travelling with Google Maps, I have to carry a power bank. Maybe current android phones are just optimized so bad in comparison to iPhones? And increasing device size allows for a proportionally larger battery size.

I got a new phone recently, a Samsung S22. I wasn't worried about the lack of headphone jack because my previous phone came with a USB-C to 3.5mm adapter. I plugged in my headphones through the adapter and my new phone told me it wasn't compatible with that adapter. Smartphones are a mess right now, they're used as platforms to get consumers to buy into other products and services. You don't need a headphone jack because you can buy wireless earbuds, and you don't need an SD card slot because you can back up your photos to the cloud, and you don't need a radio because you can subscribe to a streaming music service, and you don't need a charging brick because you can buy a wireless charging mat. They're very aggressively pushing people towards all this new and expensive tech.

If pictures are important to the buyer, they should get a high end Samsung, iPhone or specialty Huawei/Vivo models. Every other phone will have a generic camera lens and imaging algorithm. Source: I have purchased a lot of phones. A 4 year old Galaxy S22 will take better pictures than a 2025 Motorola or any other Tier 2 Android brand.
