When you turn off the DSi and forget about it for 6 years, it'll still have plenty of battery left when turned on. When I turn off my laptop on battery the next day it's dead because for some stupid reason we can't even get turning devices off right anymore.

> "What are the chances that I could find the exact charger needed for a GameBoy Colour?" I usb-c modded my DSi a little while back and it's awesome. No worries about trying to find an out of date charger, just smash it in the same one my phone uses and it's fine. I used this one https://github.com/giltesa/Nintendo-DSi-USB-C-Mod and while the reassembly of the DSi was a nightmare, it works fine apart from that. Needed a bit of case modding with some side cutters though

all of game boy advance and nintendo ds hardware is exhaustively documented in a single text file: https://problemkaputt.de/gbatek.txt (but you can replace txt with htm for a fancier version) this ranges from physical description to compact arm instruction set reference -- you really only need this document (and a way to get your console to run your code!) to program completely from scratch. i've picked up a dsi because it can load code from an sd card, so only the console, an sd card and a computer is required for programming it, but see https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=47706877 further down this thread for the case for preferring the gba.

It wasn't until 2009 - which is also when my family got WiFi (and switched from dial-up) - that I got mine: a Nintendo DSi. Objectively, that browser was terrible, even at the time. But the ability to just read text on my own (and not have to ask to use the family computer - and to stay up all night reading under the covers, which was much harder with books) was amazing then! Of course, it would seem so quaint to kids today.

The point is that even by 2010 standards the DSi camera was utter garbage, with no-name webcams on cheap netbooks being better. It's not that the best digital camera would be miles better than the DSi, it's that a bad digital camera from the previous decade would be miles better than it. Therefore, hardly representative.
