Logitech has had a competing standard for years (I have decade-old wireless G series headphones which work flawlessly). I'm not sure why their low-latency/high quality system hasn't been more broadly adopted. Probably requires too much power.

>reset to the default sensitivity and button functions if I leave them alone for a while. I need to try that. Mine is USB wired with no battery. I've got one of the lesser G USB 6-button "gaming" RGBs that was unused for well over a year. Never did try any Logi Windows apps or do any gaming either. Used as a mild-mannered office mouse instead :) A while back I started using it again, this time on a Linux PC and it still glowed with the default pattern which I had never changed. Fine by me. Then started dual booting Windows 11 and all was well until I connected to the internet, the Logitech firmware on the mouse got autoupdated, and lights out :( Still glows during POST but LEDs go out unless Windows kicks it back on in some way or another. You want it to do what it once was doing without an app? Your Windows 11 may already be updated far enough itself to give RGB control now. Otherwise you can use the Logitech app. Which doesn't have a Linux version. Looks like mine needs a background app of some kind now if I want glowing again. Oh well. Still looking forward to trying Solaar when I get back to that particular desktop :)

I use dual mice for variety sake. The Logitech G300s has been solid as a lefty. They used to be cheap enough that replacing them every couple of years (depending on usage) was feasible, but I'm not sure if the market has driven up prices since then.

Logitech G533. Specifically not Bluetooth, because Bluetooth has intermittent UX problems as I'm sure you're aware. Comfortable enough, and the boom mic can be raised to mute the headset. It can be used when charging, but I generally charge it over the weekend then use unplugged it all week.

> The hardware is great, but I can't bring myself to buy anything that requires running Logitech's software. This is why I like their G series mice, even though I'm not a gamer. You can configure them, and they'll remember the settings on their on-board memory. They're also supported by Piper on Linux, so you never have to touch the crappy Logitech software. I also have one of their trackballs, and it's a pain having to make sure the software runs so that the sensitivity is the correct one. It does Unifying and BT, and I've actually been impressed with how well the latter works. I don't feel any difference between that and the Unifying dongle, be it on a current-gen Linux PC or on an old MBP.

I think a used condition Keychron (e.g. Lemokey P1 + M3 Mouse) could tighly fit your budget. I would probably split the devices (2 receivers/usb), raise the budget a bit and get a wobkey crush 80 re, an Evoworks Evo 80 or if you prefer low profile, a lofree flow or logitech G515 tactile in used condition together with a cheap cable logitech G-series mouse
