Modern TVs are designed to work with PCs and consoles, they just also happen to have tuners. "Smart" features are mostly a distraction from actual panel capabilities. Monitor choices also tend charge a premium for equivalent size and quality while lacking some of the features, or introducing other issues. See LG gaming monitors silently installing adware on connection: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=48956688 My LG OLED C2 also has a great utility to manage deep service-level configurations. Makes it easy to professionally customize without having to fuss with the menus.

Genuinely curious - which model is this? I bought a LG C2 OLED last year (still current model) and never experienced this. It mentioned alexa support on the box, but I have never seen any popups related to it. FWIW - on most LG TVs, you can 'revoke' your acceptance of the EULA, which essentially returns the TV to non-smart status. Most of the tiles will disappear from the home screen, as will the ads. Depending on the model you might need to futz with the settings to make sure that the TV defaults to the hdmi input instead of the homescreen when you turn it on.

I don't have a solution for you. But a question: what scale do you use with a 40" 4k monitor? 100%, 150%, 200%? Also, I've been using an LG OLED C2 which has Chroma 444. Another issue with OLED is "pixel shift" to counter to burn in. I'm fairly sure I can tell when it happens, or something else is happening and I don't know what.

It hasn't been an issue in my experience. rtings.com rates input lag on tvs (as well as how well they work as monitors). Most modern units have game mode and/or PC mode which I assume disables some processing to drive down lag. On my LG C2 OLED, changing the input type to "PC" results in a visible flicker (just one flicker) when the display is shifting into some new mode.

Yes, this. I bought an LG OLED C2 recently, plugged in an Apple TV, have not connected the TV itself to the internet. Works absolutely fine; bonus is that the apparently annoying voice control option is disabled. You don't need firmware updates unless there's a specific bug that you need fixed, and you can update by USB stick if you do need a fix.

I've had an LG C2 OLED for almost a month. Turned off all those settings. So far so good, but will be keeping an eye out. Before this TV I just used a first gen 4k Apple TV, but I noticed it was a bit stuttery and didn't support as many formats so I've been using the native TV apps. Maybe I rushed too quickly on that.
