Who is advocating for this besides you? Current Apple displays are some of the worst computer displays ever when it comes to fingerprints and grime - they would have to get rid of glass. I have been using an X60 for about five years and have literally used the stylus twice, just to see that it works. My wife is a commercial artist and uses Wacom tablets. If she had wanted a drawable display she would have found some way to trick me into paying for a Cintiq by now. The collaborative thing is a non-market - the last time I used a digital whiteboard was in 2006. I can see a giant tablet with a desktop stand and keyboard becoming the new PC as a more plausible scenario than the iMac/OS X getting a touch UI.

Oh how I miss the form-factor+keyboard of my X40/X60. Seeing that tent of an X60s has me feeling very nostalgic. One of the few devices capable of doing that for me. It's too bad they had so many flimsy plastic parts until the X220 era, which still tends to crack palmrests and bezels with use. If someone packaged a modern SoC beneath an X40/X60 keyboard in a rugged light chassis with all the modern display/battery junk I'd be all over it.

I have TDE 14.1 compiled under Slackware 15.0 running on an old Thinkpad X60 core duo. The slackbuild is linked to from the Trinity Desktop Environment build instructions on their Web site. Seems to run fine and fastish with a TDE base build plus tde-powermanager. I was beginning to see a degree of slowness with xfce4 4.18, probably graphics related. I like a full desktop environment with all the apps. (I didn't use KDE back when it was version 3. I found Gnome 2 good enough)

Need to check the graphics card. Thinkpad X60 dual core 32bit (dothian?) CPU with Intel i915 graphics runs into problems with Firefox 113 because mesa 23.5 does not support that card. Falls back to llvmpipe (or at least it does on Slackware -current). In theory it should drop to 'Amber' driver (which is mesa 21.something packaged as a fall back) but it does not. However... a Thinkpad T42 (radeon integrated graphics) which is a single core machine with a PATA mechanical hard drive remains remarkably sprightly. Not up to Firefox 113 though I'm using Seamonkey. Another thought is the OS. OpenBSD cheerfully admit to limited attention to the i386 arch[1] and do not provide Firefox as a binary package for i386. I find Seamonkey with the legacy ublock origin is feasible on the machines above. I use a ThinkPad X60 and Synergy as my "keyboard". I've had way too many keyboards over the years, but the X-series ThinkPads are the only ones that don't make my hands ache after a day (or night) of code wrangling. Alas, I can't comment on which modern ThinkPads are best. I know for a fact that X40 and X60 lines are perfect. I've never used an X200 though. On the other hand, I've had a T400-something from work for a few months. That keyboard was worthless compared to my current X60.
