I have a Lenovo Thinkpad T14s Gen 3 AMD as of a few months ago. It replaced my older Thinkpad X1 Carbon 6th gen from 4 years ago, the main impetus being that I wanted 32gb of memory vs the 16gb that my X1 Carbon had. It's only a little bit bigger than the X1 Carbon, but I really like the 16:10 form factor vs the Carbon's 16:9. (Note that this year's Carbon also went to 16:10). The Ryzen 7 PRO 6850U processor (Ryzen 5 PRO 6650U also available) is performant and the battery life is _much_ better than the current 12th gen Intel processors. The experience with Linux has generally been great. I had a sleep issue initially but it's been resolved. I ordered it with only a 256GB SSD then swapped that out with a 1TB Samsung 980 Pro before installing Ubuntu. If you want at 1TB or 2TB ssd, it's significantly cheaper to do it like this vs getting a bigger one with your order, and you will have a a faster SSD too.

I just installed Fedora on my personal computer (X1 Carbon, 6th gen) and it is everything I've ever wanted. There was no configurations I needed to fiddle with. The semi-annual update is amazingly smooth. It also makes my old laptop feel like a hotrod again. I'm happy to have a computer without an AI chip. I use a Mac for work, and it is good, but I sense the subscription mania creeping in there as well. I couldn't make the jump to Windows 8 - because Microsoft created a UI without considering the customer at all. Windows 10 was a great reprieve, especially with one of the early Surface Laptops. But I can't even remain a Microsoft customer with Window 11. The whole system is built with the only intention of driving ad-based subscription revenue. The new Edge browser feels the same way. Sometimes I really hate what our industry has become. Boy am I an old curmudgeon, I think I need to go yell at someone to get off my lawn.

TLDR: If you don't care about USB-C charging I'd suggest a Librem. Otherwise, I'd go with the new X1 Carbon. I initially switched from an MBP to an XPS13. Pretty good, but I wasn't super super happy with it, nothing wrong in particular, but it felt a bit plastic-y. Then bought a Lenovo X1C6 as soon as it was announced last year and I'm very happy with it: super solid and no issues with any component. I also bought a Librem 13 because I wanted a free laptop and because why I love the X1C6 as a machine, I'm not willing to trust Lenovo 100% as far as ethics go. The Librem is a beautiful machine and works really well, however I'm not willing to use it as my main driver because it doesn't have USB-C charging. As soon as they'll release a model with USB-C charging, I'll get it and switch to it.

i had this dilemma last year myself, in the end i went with an X1 Carbon 6th gen and an eGPU (aorus gaming box 1070) and i havent regretted it but my reason for the eGPU was purely for gaming. there are some slight caveats, first is the fact that thunderbolt isnt perfect, you will sometimes find yourself having to shutdown the system and power off the GPU before itll connect and thunderbolt cables are painfully expensive which means its extra stinging when you find youve managed to somehow damage it like i have with mine recently but overall it makes for a great little portable rig
