The driver quality (mainly around display and sleep/resume features) has been terrible on my now 2 year old AMD powered Lenovo P14S. I've been using Lenovo laptops since 2001 and this one may push me to another brand for my next purchase. My issues have been seemingly slowly getting better with software updates but it's still really tarnishing the brand reputation/experience for me.

We just put in orders for Lenovo P14s gen 4 amd laptops for developers. With 64G ram, 2.8k OLED display. We have been very happy with P14s gen 2 amd with 4k display, but it has only 32G of ram. The 15W 8 core Ryzen apu has been silent and performant.

> My requirements are basically powerful hardware, a real GPU with nvidia strongly preferred, and good Linux support. Unless the NVIDIA GPU is for Windows usage or CUDA, I would strongly recommend a AMD GPU instead. My last laptop had a NVIDIA GPU and it was a hell of issues inside Linux, that was amplified for the fact that I needed to use the NVIDIA GPU or I would get no output in its HDMI port. For sure, this was a gaming laptop and I expect a Dell XPS or Precision to use the sanest choice (connect all outputs to the iGPU instead). My Thinkpad P14s Gen 1 (new old stock) with AMD Ryzen 4750U and a Vega 7 iGPU is much better, no issues at all. I had a Dell Precision 5530 from my previous workplace with a NVIDIA GPU (don't remember what) that was much better behaved in Linux, but in this case I just disabled the NVIDIA GPU and used the integrated Intel graphics (that really sucked). So if you are not interested to using NVIDIA GPU at all in Linux I would recommend this one, but to use it day-to-day in Linux desktop I would avoid NVIDIA GPUs.

I've been really happy with my P14s Gen 2 AMD. I don't understand the appeal of overly rigid metal laptops that dent. You have to really try to flex the P14s. Sleep works fine, I use S3 sleep. I haven't encountered it heat up and burn through battery in a bag like my old 2018 MBP did a couple times. Speakers and trackpad aren't great but I prefer the trackpoint and headphones work fine.

I'm touting everywhere how P14s Gen 2 AMD is the best laptop I ever had - performance, portability, silent, ports, battery, keyboard...Even compared to the MBP 14 I'm using now, I'm missing it, and Linux, while I doubt I would miss anything from MBP if I switched back, even though it's objectively great.
