In my experience, the best battery care measure is to get a phone with a good battery... I bought a Huawei P30 Pro in early 2019, never took care of preserving the battery, always used fast charging (which is very fast in that phone, 40 W). 4 years later, the battery is still going strong (now the phone belongs to my wife). On the other hand, I bought a Pixel 6 Pro in early 2021. From the beginning, I saw that the battery barely lasted a day of heavy usage, so I was more careful (trying to never get below 20%, deactivating 5G, etc.), plus the phone charges slower (around 20 W, I think) and has built-in charge planning to charge slower overnight. Even with all that, two years later, the battery is absolute crap. If I'm going to use the phone frequently (e.g. when travelling) I need an external battery to last though the day.

I had one of the last available Huawei phones, the P30 Pro, for 3 years. The only reason I had to get a new phone is because it got stolen. >Xiaomi is great build quality but they are rotting out their OS with too much bloat and up sell. I've tried Xiaomi phones in their stores a few times. I feel like they're trying to copy the look and feel of iOS in a way, and I generally don't like the iOS UX.

Huawei had achieved phones with a really strong hardware+software combination. Before sanctions, it had surpassed 20% market share in Europe ( https://www.statista.com/statistics/1232281/huawei-smartphon... ). Then the US sanctions, supposedly unrelated to the mobile phone market, hit Huawei hard making it pretty much undesirable to buy their phones in the Western market, and its market share in Europe plunged to near zero. How convenient. Spanish forums and social networks are still full of "Huawei orphans" who can't find any Android phone in the current market that can match the quality of the pre-sanctions Huawei P20/P30/P20 Pro/P30 Pro flagships. It's a recurrent post topic. I'm one of them, and I'm even considering switching to Apple. My current phone (Pixel 6 Pro) doesn't even come close to my previous Huawei P30 Pro in battery life, signal reliability, heating issues, etc. and it's the same for every other Android model I've seen from family/friends. While it does have great camera and software, in many respects it feels like more of a downgrade than an upgrade. At least I can keep using my Huawei smartwatch which gives me two weeks of battery life, rather than a few days like most of the competition. With this I mean... China is very capable of developing high-quality products like California, but California can leverage its political and military power to tilt things in their favor. At least at the moment.

I just skimmed trough the article, but genuinely if someone has experience: Of all the either Linux or alternative OS phones out there, have someone had great experience with Camera Quality on these phones? One thing that is keeping me from changing is the camera quality. I had a Huawei P30 pro and it was sick. Then i changed to the iPhone 13Pro and again, also top. But i still have not seen convincing hardware integration with good lenses on these mobiles.

What I don't get are these price tags. My last flagship phone was a Google Nexus 6P where the base model was $499. Amazing phone, too bad after 3 years it had a battery issue but the manufacturer gave me a new one. But the thing is: it was $499. That was the greatest thing about the Nexus lines - good hardware (maybe not the latest SOC) with regular updates and a good OS experience. I miss those phones. Google with the Pixels went full goofy mode. I'm not paying 1.140€ for a phone. I have a Huawei P10 that's still running smoothly, just the battery is getting tired... so maybe ill get one of those Pixel 6 Pro :) But Google pushed away a lot of the Nexus user base, who were hyped every year for the new Nexus.

I recently bought a Pixel 7 after my Huawei P30 pro broke. The older Huawei model is so much better than the newer Pixel that it makes you think why they don't allow them to access the Play store anymore.

I have a iPhone SE II and a Huawei P30 and I refuse to buy newer / more expensive phones. All of needs were met when iPhone 5s came out and 99% of new features are just pointless. Unfortunately we live in a world partially thanks to Google where version 1.0 is grossly underrated. Btw. what are those gestures you are talking about? I am pretty much a boomer when it comes to using software and my 2 year old son could show me new features of Youtube for example but I was not aware of any hidden gestures...

I got an android when it was on version 2.3. It was a Huawei P1 and blew everyone's mind. 1080p video recording, OLED display etc. I had various other androids that beat Apple on some feature; wireless charging, 4K video whatever. But the problem was they never lasted more than 2 years tops. My last android was an LG G7 and it got 18 months of OS updates from release. I didn't buy it immediately so I got even less. Enough of that. I bought an iPhone 12 Pro and it's as good today as it was out of the box if not better. The one single gripe I have is that the apple keyboard is utter trash. It's so bad I'll reconsider android when it's time to replace even if it costs me more over time.
