Is this a thing? I've been using a Pixel 9 Pro Fold for one full year now and my inner screen looks pretty flawless. I don't see a single scratch, and I've never used any kind of protector on the inside. This kind of sounds like a "sour grapes" excuse where a really good thing is presumed to suck only because you can't have it. Personally, as someone who isn't really interested in a full tablet, the foldable is really really nice.

Same thoughts. I did try one, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold for 6 months before going back to iOS (I'm too deep on the ecosystem, but I like to try Android again every once in a while). I think I only used it unfolded like three times. It was pretty much pointless for me. Anything I need a bigger screen for, I almost always have either my laptop or iPad with me for that. I don't WANT to do things on my phone, I actually want to use it less - a foldable offers the alternative deal, where you want to and actively use your phone for more and more tasks forgoing other devices. Not for me, probably never will be.

I can believe this for Samsung, but Google's hardware is as crappy as one would expect. I had a Pixel 9 Pro Fold, and within half a year it developed some issue probably related to the sensor that tells it which screen should be turned on, and the screen would randomly stay black. At least Google replaced it with the newer generation model for free, which I then sold.

I didn't read the paywalled article, but this phone looks exactly like the Pixel 9 Pro Fold I used to own. And that is to say that it looks dated and ugly, particularly compared to Samsung's square phones. Google's design comes with larger bezels, more weight and thickness, and a bigger crease. The rounded corners are subjective I guess.

I've greatly enjoyed my Pixel 9 Pro Fold and would recommend it, with the following advice: I am very careful with mine. It's rated fairly well for water resistance, but not well for dust ingress. It's imperative that you keep it clean (I use alcohol wipes and microfiber cloth daily) and well contained in sandy or dirty environments. That said, I've taken mine to the beach and on camping/canoeing trips, albeit in a soft waterproof enclosure which still lets me use the external screen.

Can confirm that it does, at least on the pixel 9 pro fold, after enabling it in developer options. However, I don't see the top window handle they show in the animation. I have to long press the app icon in the running apps view, then I get a free form option. At that point, I get the floating windows with controls. You can tap and drag the sides and corners of apps to resize windows, seems intuitive enough.

I like that there's a smaller "pro" model. The Fold 2, sorry Pixel 9 Pro Fold, is the most interesting one for me but the price is too high. I've been waiting for a while for these foldables to go down in price but they still haven't. Other than that, it's all about the "AI". Which I don't have much interest in, plus, didn't they already said last year that the Pixel 8 was "all about AI". At this point, there's no use in buying a phone to have these features when the following year your phone that's supposedly made with AI in mind is phased for for a new phone that this time around for real is the one that's "made for AI". Eh.
