What happens to Allo? Abandon it just like hangouts? Google has been playfully abandoning most of their products lately. It’s the consumers that has to live with it. I bought a nexus 6p last year, only to find out Google is dropping support with Android P. Oh man I wish I bought an iPhone, atleast it gets support for 5 years. ️

I've got a Pixel 9a expected to arrive today, specifically for it to run GrapheneOS. One of my old phones was a Nexus 6P running CopperheadOS (prior to the dispute that spawned GrapheneOS), and it was great back then. Looking forward to how things have progressed in the years since. I wish GrapheneOS would support non-Pixel hardware, though, specifically my Fairphone 4. I get why that probably won't ever happen, but it feels like a massive regression in terms of repairable hardware to move away from that.

I voted with my wallet since iPhone 4. I was an early enthusiast with iPhone and owned the first model, as soon as it came out, and the next 3 models after that. But at some point it started becoming so expensive I was put off. I can afford it but I was just disgusted. I have gone through 3 Android phones since and now use a Nexus 6P, which is a very nice phone.

A Nexus 4 handed down to my son recently stopped working when he dropped it, smashing the screen. Gave him my cast off Nexus 5 that was still storming great. My wife's Nexus 5 was working perfectly, though we replaced it with an iPhone 7 (to her great dismay, it turns out). My own Nexus 6P has worked perfectly, but for dev reasons I replaced it with a GS8 (which is simply a stunning device in every way, including the fact that I immediately dropped a UHS-1 64GB SD card it in and now do my data churning development on that). The point, I guess, is that anecdotes vary. Heck, my son has been toying around with the G1 and G2, and Nexus One, I had sitting in drawers.

Opposite experience with a Nexus 6P--it's the best phone I ever had, and my wife who has an iPhone 6 looks with envy at what I do with mine.

This makes me sad. I've played with Windows Phone a few times and it felt buttery smooth (even my Nexus 6P it still pauses occasionally; granted the pausing on Android gets less and less with each version but I'm still a tiny bit disappointed it still pauses unlike my past iPhones and Windows phone). Their idea for a unified OS across devices is an awesome goal as well. It's really cool to see the latest Windows Phones and watch them plug into a keyboard, mouse and monitor and bam you have the FULL version of Microsoft Office apps and a Windows 10 like desktop. But in today's market you have to have the apps to succeed. They never really got the apps. It's really disappointing in my opinion.
