I bought a very similar looking $120 Brother HL-2170W 13 years ago after moving cross country and being unable to justify schlepping my trusty Laserjet 4 Plus. I’ve apparently only printed 6500 pages and I think I’ve changed the toner two or three times but it has been surprisingly trusty for the price point.

Doesn’t like it

I have exclusively printed from Ubuntu, I currently use a Dell C1765 color laser. I also use a Brother HL-2170W, but I was unable to enable network printing on this device without first attaching it to a windows machine via USB and running the brother utility. I print infrequently enough that inkjets would essentially be one-time-use, as the nozzles would completely dry up before I could use it again. So Laser is the best option.

I have a similar story about mine, but it’s nearing seven years old and just keeps doing what it does. It doesn’t even have WiFi or AirPrint, but brother has an app that can print to it when you’re on the same network with an iPhone, which is surprisingly convenient. HL-2170W and iPrint&Scan
