I updated my barely 1-year-old Apple Watch Ultra 3 to watchOS 27. Never installed any betas on it. Tried to set a timer via Siri after a spinner for several seconds: "Cannot set a timer because the Clock app is not installed on this device." F to the ninth heck whoever is in charge of that crap at Apple.

I can run most models 100B and under on my MacBook Pro with Ultra 3 and 128GB of RAM at 25-70tok/sec-ish, and it was around $5k. I don’t think I can run GLM 5.2 since it requires around 256GB of memory and the inference is probably too slow, but the future (planned) Apple M7 may be able to. The leaks say it will support up to ~700GB of RAM. The models under 100B are kind of dumb as a brick and aren’t that useful unless you’re really bad at coding imo. They can’t really be trusted not to hallucinate so they’re not even good for data processing.

Can confirm. I wore an Apple every day since 5 months before it was on sale (as a developer at Apple). I wore it (every single year model) for 10 years. This year, I hit a significant integer change in age and decided to start dressing better. I went a bit nuts buying Japanese and Swiss watches and learning all about them as engineering and art pieces. It's basically like learning about cars all over again. Super fun. I even repaired a broken Rolex with a set of Swiss watchmaking tools from Amazon and instructions from ChatGPT, Gemini, and Youtube. I also still bought the Apple Watch Ultra 3 because while mech is fantastic and fun, I can't deny that SMS via Satellite in the backcountry on a hike is an amazing feature.

The biggest perk of the apple watch for me is to be able to keep my phone in my purse or on my desk and not ever miss calls. Important call from a doc I work with? Easy to see it with haptic and a glance at my wrist and I can step out and take it.

Data can show a lot about your health. Anecdotally I find the sleep disturbances (apnea) monitoring to work for me. The trends are a pretty nice, will track general changes in health on the data it monitors. They now can capture high BP to some degree of accuracy. It’s not for everyone but for me it’s one of the more useful devices in my life. Depends where you are at in life but I found as I have gotten older that some of the data points are helpful to track to see how my body is aging and when/what to adjust.

Why can't Apple, of all manufacturers, produce a watch that can last longer on a charge than one or two days? Garmins easily last a week.
