I know I am weird, but I detest using a MacBook trackpad. However, recently having used Asahi on one, I've found that it is the Apple software that makes it so. I find it really difficult to drag and drop (I would rather open Terminal and standard Unix tools than try anymore) and gestures are way too greedy IMO. Under Linux it is bearable for me (though I still have preferred others slightly for a better texture than the glassy feel). I wonder if the author is like me in that respect? Not sure I would spend time like this, but I also spent months building my Linux environment from a tty in 2009-2010 (landed on XMonad, finally on River this year after 5 months in GNOME purgatory to force myself to move to Wayland). Last macOS machine I set up, I turned off a bunch of stuff in Settings and was instantly bored because I just didn't want to deal with the window manager at all. It is now my video chat machine because of Dell's "wise" decision to use IPU7 hardware…but I really don't like using it for much else (Asahi reboots are tedious).

This is the opposite of what I want. Is there a fix for the defectively-large trackpad on Mac laptops, which causes spurious right-clicks, deselections, and cursor jumps while you're typing? The fix would be to deactivate the outer inch or so of the trackpad. I can only imagine the overly-complicated and ultimately unreliable touch-rejection logic Apple has ladled onto this thing, to work around a problem they created.

If you are doing coding or other non-design work, I would highly recommend learning how to do everything on your computer without touching your mouse. It's a whole new world when your fingers never leave the keyboard and you can still do anything you want. But if you really want a trackpad, yep, nothing beats an Apple Touchpad. (or at least what I have used / seen)

The one area where apple really exels though, in both hardware and software is the touchpad. I cannot stand using the touchpad on any windows laptop I used, the touchpad is 99% the reason I still use a mac/osx.

Why does every comment chain devolve into this(although you admitted it)? Apple touch pads are an improvement over all other laptop brand touchpads. But then this fallacy is the only response. "These rounded corners in the UI really make me not care about the touch pad" "I wish I could care about touchpads, my ssd won't replace itself without a soldering iron though!" "They have touchpads? I use a mouse" Great. Apple touchpads are next generation compared to most other laptops.
