I just realized that this is the one that I use and love. Given the ample number of ports USB/Ethernet/Thunderbolt and SSD I have never felt a need to replace it. The lack of non-Retina screen does not bothers me much since I use it with an external monitor. Having read this article I am now worried about breaking it since it seems Apple has no better options yet.

Basically me. I spend a lot of time with an old MacBook Pro 13” with non-retina 1280*800 screen, and I see no pixels and see very little actual difference with my workflow, while comparing to my other retina 13” MacBook Pro. Just watching videos is very different, all other tasks are the same to my eyes.

My 2012 MacBook Pro non-retina is still going strong! Just replaced the battery in it after the original would only charge to 67%, so hopefully I'll get another 10 years out of it. Now it's running Linux, as of this year.

Hey mine was non retina too! It really was a fantastic piece of hardware, and probably the only Mac I’ll ever live. The dual SSDs(I replaced the cd drive too) gave it a few more years for me. I’m pretty happy with the replacement I got though. It’s and MSI gaming laptop, but without the “gamer” look. It’ll handle anything I throw at it, so now I can take VR in the go. Still gonna miss that MacBook though

This. I own a mid 2012 non-retina MBP as that's the only MacBook that I could justify buying. It's actually a serviceable and upgradable computer and not just an appliance. It's sad to think that for this reason it will most likely be my last Mac, as I genuinely like macOS and the trackpad alone beats any other laptop in usability on-the-go.
