I use mine to browse the web a bit after work and consume RSS feeds using Feedly - always with the type cover. But for productivity, even with the Office apps, the information density on the screen is too low. Instead, I use my iPad as a thin client to RDP to my desktop computer, running Windows 11. This is with an iPad Pro 2021. In hindsight I should have purchased a Surface Pro tablet again, but I was so angry on the constant driver issues and similar problems.

The only reason I'm buying a new iPad Pro is the screen and because the battery on my 2021 iPad Pro is slowly dying. I could care less that the M4 chip is in the iPad Pro ... all I use it for is browsing the web, watching movies, playing chess, and posting on Hacker News (and some other social media as well).

Same here in AU, this happened to me about 8 hours ago. Standard reset procedure worked. Now when trying to configure a Recovery Key from my 2021 iPad Pro I’m told that I can’t do that from ‘this new device’ of mine. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ And when I try it from my iPhone I have to wait an hour because of Stolen Device Protection. Apparently I’m not at a ‘familiar location’. I’m at home. I work from home. This phone is in this house for 99% of the time. Not amazing is it.

I rely on laptops provided by corporations I work at, so here's the breakdown of the remaining electronics: 1) samsung s10 (2014) -> iphone 8 (2018) -> iphone 13 mini (2022) -> no replacement planned since Apple dropped mini lineup. 2) gaming pc: amd fx-8350 (2012) -> i7-6700k (2016) -> 7800x3d (2023) -> hopefully no replacement till 2027 3) tablet: nexus 7 (2012) -> galaxy tab s3 (2018) -> ipad pro 2021 (2022) -> unless battery completely dies earlier than in 4 years like it happened with nexus 7 (making it stationary device). So overall, my update cycle is every 4 years on avg, with PC upgrades having longer cycles thanks to exceptional performance of the chosen platform at the time I.e. I still have i7-6700k working at another location and delivering strong both for productivity and gaming use cases.

I agree with this sentiment, The ipad Pro is an infuriating device. the OS is incredibly limiting, arbitrarily crippled and has UI decisions that seem to defy any kind of internal consistency. The fact that the "thunderbolt" port seems to arbitrarily reject usb drives that work on my phone (s23 ultra) and steam deck, that I am treated like a child in a safety helmet when using my own device, that browsers are all just shitty reskins of safari, that windowing system which seems like the fisher price toy version of a real computer... all of this is even more infurating because some of my most productive artistic work has been done on an ipad pro, as a 3d artist I have enormous chunks of my workflow that I accomplish on Nomad Sculpt, and Cozy Blanket (modelling and retopology) I take notes on Concepts, and I really enjoy the fantastic screen and pen responsiveness... I just wish this device wouldnt occupy such disparate corners of the quality histogram. as it is, I upgraded from a 2018 pro to a 2021 1TB / 16GB of ram because I regularly sculpt models in the tens of millions of polygons on this device. I just wish I wasnt treated like some interloper when I was ready to actually do work on it.
