Sadly I'm not one of those people because I have a desktop with an AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D, which does not have an integrated graphics card. However now that AMD is including integrated GPUs on every AM5 consumer CPU (if I'm not mistaken?), maybe VMs with passthrough will be more common, without requiring people to spend a lot of money buying a secondary GPU.

I went from 2700 to 5800X3D and the difference is absolutely dramatic and well worth it. Originally I had a 1440p monitor with Geforce 1080 which was fine. Then I bought a 4K monitor and it brought it down to it's knees. Then upgraded to 3080 and there definitely was an improvement, but FPS was still unacceptably low so upgraded to that X3D processor. It's a beast and I play most games on 140+fps.

Memory caching will accelerate all requests through the memory controller. The extra 64MB of L3 in my 5800X3D wouldn't accelerate DMA between my memory and my GPU, this HBM cache should accelerate PCI-e devices like GPUs and Storage. It's a benefit in 2 socket configurations when the memory the CPU needs is connected to another socket. The data will be cached on the other socket's HBM for the entire system without filling up that other socket's L1-L3 cache for data it hasn't requested yet. Another way to see it is the last time Intel messed around with L4 cache under the EDRAM section. https://www.anandtech.com/show/9582/intel-skylake-mobile-des... The entire GPU and EDRAM complex get moved out of the CPU caching scheme.

My 2500k could go up to 4.9 but the juice eventually lead to some massive degradation. It lasted me for 8 years until I jumped to a 3700x and now a 5800x3d. I like the performance but my next CPU is going to be 65w again. These things are hot. But not hot enough to jump on a 7800x3d. Funny how the best gaming CPU is 65w but the best GPU is about 8 times that. Heat and noise are important

> Unified memory that is also high bandwidth. I do think Apple is smart in using memory the way they are. It's the future. But AMD routinely posts higher performance numbers for CPU and GPU because their large caches boast similarly high memory bandwidth figures and AMD's cores have significantly higher IPC. I also think Apple's trick of extending the ARM ISA to allow for x86 style memory alignment is slick for fast emulation. Credit where it's due. Apple's caches are also very fast, just not as large as AMD's. In short, memory bandwidth is just one measurement of the bandwidth along the entire disk bandwidth disk cache bandwidth PCIe bandwidth main memory bandwidth L4 / L3 / L2 / L1 cache bandwidth hierarchy, and details about cache coherency, associativity, eviction strategies, branch prediction, and other sundries matter along the way. My 8 core Ryzen 5800x3D certainly compiles code a LOT faster than my 8 core M1 Mac despite the difference in main memory bandwidth. More memory is almost always going to mean that memory is slower, and Ryzen can handle more memory. Ryzen's architected with large caches and prefetching and all kinds of other goodies with that in mind. > Use Geekbench 6. It's closest to SPEC and optimizes well for both x86 and ARM. Geekbench is a synthetic benchmark. I'd prefer real workloads like compiling code or tokens / s inference.

I only just upgraded from my i5 3570K to a Ryzen 7 5800X3D. Not because anything I was currently doing with my computer was becoming too slow, but because I wanted to do new things (VR). A shame, I wanted to run that thing into the ground. I've got my old system sat spare, I'm not sure what to do with it.

I got a Raw S1 which I love form factor wise. My Ryzen 5800X3D I think has issues with c states which caused reboots from low to high power states. Thought it was the 3800RTX and 600w PSU. Upgrade SFX-l which has you loose the rear 120mm fan. Whole thing really started to cook itself till I disabled the c state and switched back to the 600w
