It works fairly well for me in Linux on WINE, even with Visual PinMAME. I believe I used the all-in-one installer (vpx7setup.exe, although there's a later version now). My GPU is an AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT, if that makes a difference.

Windows is complex, and the hardware people run Windows is also complex. Shit can be weird. For one, I had a problem with my Ryzen 5600 CPU and RX-5700XT video card combo. There is some kind of incompatibility between these two, and one that I only experienced in Windows, and only in a few specific games, and only in specific scenarios in those games. One such was looking up on the sky in Anno 1800, a strategy game. Look up the sky, and Windows reboots in one minute. This experience is rare, evidenced by the many normal benchmarks and gameplays that exist with this, and similar combos. But other people also experienced it, such as this user: https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/comments/xxrg3h/my_pc_rx_5... I have since swapped my 5700 xt to a 6600 xt, and the issue went away. The new owner of the 5700 xt is also happy as a clam at high tide. I'd wager that maybe a few hundred of people experienced this at most.

You could also be in a fun grey area where your 6600XT will sometimes reset properly and allow the physical host to reclaim it for its own purposes. Or not and require a full forced shutdown and reboot to restore proper function. Let's just say I'm very aware of AMD's issues in this area :P Also looking glass is pretty great though it's use of the Desktop Duplication API seemed to carry with it a huge performance hit. Or rather did the last time I used it (it's been a while)

RDNA2 is a beast, low TDP and great perf, i bought the RX 6600 XT (from ebay ~250) for my VM PCI passthrough needs (gaming) and it never go over 50°C, it's quite impressive It's even better than the newest Intel GPUs (except maybe for raytracing, but that's a thing for 'tomorrow')

6600XT pass through works fine on QEMU/virtd. There is no need to have multiple GPUs in your machine to have a passable setup. I can boot into Linux, and swap into Windows in 2 seconds with this setup. I have a dirty 20 line Bash script that deals with detaching the console, and passing the right things to the right place, but it all works. ROCm on consumer cards does not work well. The tooling sucks. Massively. I don't understand why AMD doesn't have an extra team of 20 devs working just on the tooling. Using DirectML with Windows Subsystem for Linux gives you better ML GPGPU support then AMDs native tooling.
